MSW - Musées et Société en Wallonie

Musées et Société en Wallonie was founded in 1998 and is aimed at the promotion of museum institutions in the Walloon Region, specially by the creation of a consultation network of their activities. The association wants to contribute to the valorisation of culture and its introduction in social and economic life, and more specifically in tourism.
It participates to the protection and the highlighting of the public heritage in a context of global heritage management in the French-speaking Community and in the Walloon Region.
Musées et Société en Wallonie strives to promote exchange with other professional associations that can help it with their experience and knowhow. In exchange it offers its partners the extensive variety of the museum institutions of the French-speaking community in Wallonia and its collections. In 2000 a partner agreement was signed with the Société des Musées Québécois (SMQ), which is already followed by other cooperations with French-speaking institutional partners abroad: the Office de Coopération et d’Information Muséographiques (OCIM), the Direction des Musées de France (DMF), the Association des Musées suisses (AMS).
Because of its wish to make the museums and the museum institutions full-fledged players in the tourist sector, Musées et Société en Wallonie follows the line of thought of the association Attractions et Tourisme, and more specifically on the level of employment in the sector.
