Who was Henry Van de Velde?
Van de Velde (1863-1957), who trained as a painter, redefined himself as an architect, interior architect, designer, educator and artistic councillor.
He left behind an impressive collection of works and an international career, with many projects in Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands and, of course, France!
Among his most famous buildings are the "Bloemenwerf" villa in Uccle, several Art Nouveau houses in Weimar, the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo and the "Boekentoren" at the University of Ghent.
Van de Velde was at the origin of the school from which the modernist Bauhaus movement appeared. He founded the renowned Architecture school "La Cambre" in Brussels.
