Discover the life of this son of a wood sculptor, who grew up to become the much loved Flemish writer. In Brussels from 12/03 to 01/09/13!
Willy Vandersteen is the creator of Bob and Bobette and numerous other popular series that he would illustrate himself before entrusting them to his studio.
He developed a style of illustration that left considerable room for narration.
Directly inspired by popular literature and TV series, his stories intrigue, his humour does not fear nonsense and the general themes of his stories are centred around social questions.
Vandersteen was born in Antwerp on the 15 February 1913, in the district of Seefhoek, a veritable paradise for artisan craftsmen and storytellers.
As a child, he dreamt of Buffalo Bill, Detective Nick Carter, Jules Verne and "Five Weeks in a Balloon", the first book he read.
Later, he dreamt of the Red Knight and Robert and Bertrand, which was inspired by another favourite book from his youth.
Thanks to Willy Vandersteen, the comic book was confirmed as a literary genre!
