Feel the magic of Christmas in the magnificent setting of the Maredsous Abbey! In Maredsous, every weekend from 01/12 to 30/12/12!
Come and see the many exhibitors, craftsmen, concerts and take part in torch-lit walks, every weekend from 10:00-20:00 and Tuesday 25/12 from 10:00-midnight. Discover the 19th century monastry and the lifestyle of the Benedictine monks who live there.
At the end of the 18th century there were some 50 Benedictine monastries - not to mention the many Cistercian monastries - stretching over the land we now know as modern Belgium. However, following the French Revolution, monastries and religious buildings in our region were closed down and sometimes sold.
A great number of them were even destroyed. Today, 30 or so Benedictine monastries have been re-opened and Maredsous is part of this rejuvination!
This beautiful place is ideal for contemplation or scenic walks, for council, tradition, gastronomy and devotion and it is ready to welcome you with open arms!
