The festivities start with the preliminary "Kappensitzung" sessions and the Ladies' Thursday which precedes the "gras days").
Not forgetting the start of the Carnival Prince's reign (once he is presented with the keys to the town) signals the beginning of festivities.
The grand procession takes place mainly over Monday Gras and is also known as "Rosenmontag" or "Rose Monday", (as, according to tradition, paper roses are thrown along the parade route).
The float of the Carnival Prince, Master of Ceremonies, is the main feature of the parade. The festival ends on Mardi Gras when Prince Carnival returns the keys of the town to the proper local authorities.
