WALK WITH STICK
The origins of this walk go back to the 14th century. The monks in their time climbed the flanks of the Mont-Saint-Aubert by way of expiatory pilgrimage. Much later, the local kids went to the "mountain" and cut off branches in the surrounding forests; they made sticks and started peaceful jousts with their wooden weapons. Today this tradition still continues. Every Easter Monday the inhabitants of Tournai do a walk (of 6, 12 or 20 km) to the top of the Mont-Saint-Aubert, everyone at his or her own pace. The mountain is 147 meters high and offers a beautiful compensation to the walkers with its magnificent panoramic view over the entire Escaut valley and over the city in the middle with its cathedral and 5 church-towers.
Welcoming by the organisers from 7.30 am to 5 pm at the sports hall of Kain (close to the swimming pool). There you will receive information so you can easily follow the trail you will choose (6, 12 or 20 km). This is duly way-marked.
At the starting secretariat located in the hall: drinks and snacks, presentation of old Tournais games. At the arrival on top of the Mont-Saint-Aubert: welcoming tent with bar, distribution of a cold drink and the traditional Easter egg, various animations.
An observation competition is also organised on the trails with numerous prizes to win.
Only condition to participate: bring a stick...
