Discover this prestigious exhibition on the engraving work of Ensor, a major figure of Modern European Art. In Malmedy from 16/03 to 03/11/13!

A unique collection, presented to the public for the first time!

Close to 70 pieces illustrate the many facets of the artists graphic creations.

The themes dealt with are as diverse as those in his paintings. Ensor deals with landscapes, portraits, still life and fantasy and religious subjects.

It was in 1885 that Ensor's art took on a different dimension. it was in 1886 that he created his first engraving. He started to distance himself further and further from realism and his works took on a fantastic and symbolic dimension.

Alone, Ensor starts to experiment with the grotesque.

He creates pieces that satirise the bourgeois world. For ten years, he embarked on a personal journey of discovery, which lead to him renewing Belgian art and anticipating the expressionist movements.

Engraving took as important a place in Ensor's art as drawing and painting:

"I want to survive, to continue to speak to the people of tomorrow. I dream of solid coppers, indelible inks, easy reproductions, faithful copies and I'm adopting etching as a means of expression. Then, I again pick up my palette with aplomb and colour, fresh and pure, once more, dominates me".

    An unmissable exhibition!
