Discover the history of exceptional heritage sites recognised by UNESCO through old and contemporary photos. In Mons from 22/06 to 29/09/13!

Throughout the summer, the Museums of the city of Mons will offer two outdoor exhibitions to highlight their heritage:

From 22 June, the exhibition "Mons, ville aux 3 patrimoines UNESCO" ("Mons, town with 3 UNESCO heritage sites") will be set up in the Parc du Beffroi and from 29 June, Square Roosevelt will welcome an exhibition showcasing the Artothèque project as well as its history and its neighbourhood.

Shots from unpublished collections from the town's museums and archives will also be displayed for the occasion.

Over three centuries of history

Also discover "un beffroi en chantier" (A belfry under construction), in St Calixtus Chapel!

An exhibition recounting the history of Mons' belfry, from its creation in the 17th century to its restoration which began almost 30 years ago.

Located in Square Roosevelt, opposite Sainte-Waudru collegiate church, the former chapel of the Ursuline convent will have new life breathed into it over the coming years. Now the heart of the Pôle muséal, it will be dedicated to the hidden side of museums and will be the place where the whole of the heritage of Mons is conserved: the Artothèque.

This outdoor exhibition will be dedicated to the history of the area, but also to the history of the convent where the future Artothèque will be located.

A new home for culture in Mons

Through archival documents, the exhibition will recount the key moments of this place steeped in history and will also present the project for the future Artothèque through:

  • Sketches, plans, documents...
  • And architects' commentaries.
