Around Wallonia: contact the organiser for further details.
To push people in Brussels and Wallonia to dig their noses in books, local authorities have come up with this great project.
Associations, citizens, institutions and teachers have all been called to take part in organising activities in their local communities to encourage people to read more.
The project is promoted by mayors and local councils, who will be handing out €10 book vouchers to anyone taking part in the activities. Sponsored by the Region of Wallonia and the City of Brussels
Why 23 April?
On 23 April 1616 Cervantes, Shakespeare and Garcilaso de la Vega, known as the Inca, all passed away.
This same day, writers such as Druon, K. Laxness, Nabokov, Pla and Mejía Vallejo were born.
This is why this date is a symbolic one for universal literature, and has been chosen by UNESCO to pay homage around the world to books and their authors and to encourage each and every one of us, especially the younger generations, to discover the pleasure of reading and to respect the contribution of writers to social and cultural progress.
Literary activities have also been organised on this occasion in libraries, schools and several venues in Brussels and Wallonia.
