CARNIVAL OF THE GIANTS

CARNIVAL OF THE GIANTS
© Ville de Wellin

Born in 1987 - along with the resurrection of the "Bon Géant", ("Good Giant"), Wandalino, (six meters tall), and accompanied by his Nutons in 1988 - the Carnival of Wellin expands rapidly in 1989 with the creation of a series of historical giants by the association of each department of the commune : in Chanly : The "miller Henry of Thrisnes", in Halma : the knight Lambert, in Daverdisse : Jean de Daverdisse, ... In 1990 and 1994, the family increases in size with the addition of la dame de Wellin, (the lady of Wellin), and Godefroid de Wellin, (Geoffry of Wellin). This Carnival - outstandingly impressive and vibrant - is brought to life with the saltimbanques and the famous macrâles of Lomprez, as well as many other groups not only from the region of Wellin, but also from France, Holland,..
