MUSEUM OF GROESBEECK DE CROIX (NAMUR) © Ville de Namur Architect Chermanne was commissioned to convert the former Villers-en-Brabant sanctuary into an elegant town house in the Louis XV style by the Comte du Groesbeeck at the end of the 18th century. It became a museum in 1935, and its marvelously preserved interior contains fine collections of Namur furniture, glassware, ceramics etc. The formal gardens unfortunately did not survive the test of time, but were re-laid at the same time by landscape gardener Hector Mathieu, who gave the garden its former appearance, with the central pond, symmetrical boxwood borders, a garden pavilion and orangery. PROVINCIAL FÉLICIEN ROPS MUSEUM (NAMUR) © Musée Provincial Felicien Rops The provincial Félicien Rops museum is located in a mansion in the heart of old Namur, not far from the birthplace of the artist (1833-1898). The main themes of the artist's work are exhibited (women, love, desire and death) tracing his career from his debut as a caricaturist in Brussels to the zenith of his career in Paris.
