The Cistercian abbey of Val Dieu, a major site for pilgrimage and traditional Belgian beers in the Land of Herve in Belgium.
The abbey of Val Dieu is located in the centre of the Meuse–Rhine Euroregion, 25km from the cities of Liège, Maastricht and Aachen.
This abbey, which dates back to the 13th century is currently managed by the Communauté Chrétienne (Christian Community) of Val Dieu.
Val Dieu is a favourite destination among pilgrims and tourist. It's secret is simple: a warm welcome, delicious beer and wholesome food.
The Val Dieu Brewery
The brewery is unique in Belgium as it opens its doors inside the abbey. It is managed by an independent company, in partnership with the abbey.
Respecting the monks' traditions, it brews beers with distinct characters and flavours: a pale beer, a brown beer, a Triple and a Grand Cru.
The abbey's stables have been converted to house the Casse-Croute restaurant and its terrace. Here you can enjoy regional specialities with a delicious Val Dieu beer or a glass of Aubel cider.
