Situated in the heart of the museum quarter in Brussels, the Magritte Museum is home to a rich collection of surrealism masterpieces from around the world.

In fact, more than 200 works from the Belgian surrealist painter, René Magritte, have taken up residence in Place Royale in the Hôtel Altenloh, an old neoclassic building dating back to the end of the 18th century.

The museum's outstanding collection consists of oil paintings, gouaches, drawings, sculptures and painted objects, but also advertising posters, music partitions, vintage photos and films shot by Magritte himself.

Work displayed, which include the artist's masterpieces, such as L'Empire des lumières, come from bequests and purchases of the Royal Museums of Fine Arts in Belgium, and are completed with works on loan from private collectors.
