Standing proud and isolated on a plateau in the Hainaut countryside, is a 14th century walled fortress formerly reached through a drawbridge across a moat.
The impressive four-sided building, flanked by pepper-pot towers, grew over the centuries with the addition of annexes and outbuildings.
Sacked and pillaged in 1597, it was rapidly restored by its new owner who built new living accommodation, the west wing, whose classical façade, framed by two towers, opens onto the terraced gardens.
The castle is closed on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
Guided tours of the castle, the Petit musée Vivant de la Pharmacie, the Chambre du Souvenir du Général Reille and the Parc led by the owner are available upon reservation for groups of minimum 25 people. Length of tour: 1h15 minutes. €6 per person.
Access : E19-A7 motorway (Brussels-Mons), exit 20 (Feluy-Seneffe) and follow Lobbes/Leers, towards Beaumont.
Castle, small Pharmacy museum, Souvenir Chamber of General Count Reille and park: €3 per person - €2 for students and seniors.
