UNESCO world heritage site

Le Cazier taverne awaits you for a convivial time centred around local specialities. A place for remembering, just like the millions of miners did.

8.56am, 8 August 1956 at the Bois du Cazier mine in Marcinelle. The largest mining catastrophe Belgium has ever seen began. An accident in one of the lifts resulting in a fire starting took the lives of 262 of the 274 victims present in the mine at the time.

Today, you can visit the old Bois du Cazier mine. It is a remembrance site of the catastrophe, but also museum of glass, industry and a major cultural site in Charleroi.

The site of the old Bois du Cazier mine is today inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Regional produce proposed by Le Cazier

Le Cazier suggests the Roulade de chicon à la Chimay bleue (Chicory roulade with Blue Chimay beer), the Gayette (regional truffles) with coffee, the Molignette aperitif and Chimay beer.
