Halfway between Liege and Huy stands Aigremont Castle, a stunning setting which will take you through Baroque and French style gardens.
- A castle worth the visit,
- Different styles that come together beautifully.
The castle is the result of Liege architecture from the beginning of the 13th century that uses Mosane traditions influenced by the style of Louis XIV.
Perched high on the hills overlooking the Meuse, the elegant Aigremont castle was built by archdeacon Mathias Clercx at the beginning of the 18th century. Its walls, in calcareous ragstone, make it a rare architectural gem.
A stunning baroque style that is unique in Belgium
It begins with the vast, impressive staircase in the entrance hall. Italian-style trompe-l'œil paintings draw your eyes upwards to where birds challenge one another, the scene bordered by leaves, garlands, balustrades, fruits and flowers all over the walls.
Wooden sculptures, paintings and period furniture decorate the numerous rooms to round off the beauty of the building.
The French-style gardens invite you for a stroll
The main courtyard, adorned with pretty wall fountains representing Neptune and Diana, a chapel to Saint Mathias and two little pavilions will convince you that you are in an exceptional setting.
Perched on a rocky ridge, the Aigremont Castle is waiting for your assault, you won't regret it!
