Chièvres Air Base International Museum

Chièvres Air Base International Museum
© Daniel Leleu

The museum tells a shortened version of the history of aviation in the city of Chièvres. It all started in 1917 when the Germans occupied the area and again from 1940 to 1944. The unusual occupation was then taken over by the Italians in 1941, followed by the liberation and presence of the Americans until 1945. The young Belgian Air Force subsequently took over from 1947 to 1964. Nowadays it is NATO forces with their 80th maintenance group of the US Air Force that occupy the area.

Closed for renovation. Reopening scheduled for April 2013.
