MUSEUM OF GROESBEECK DE CROIX

MUSEUM OF GROESBEECK DE CROIX
© OPT / JP Remy

Architect Chermanne was commissioned to convert the former Villers-en-Brabant sanctuary into an elegant town house in the Louis XV style by the Comte du Groesbeeck at the end of the 18th century. It became a museum in 1935, and its marvelously preserved interior contains fine collections of Namur furniture, glassware, ceramics etc. The formal gardens unfortunately did not survive the test of time, but were re-laid at the same time by landscape gardener Hector Mathieu, who gave the garden its former appearance, with the central pond, symmetrical boxwood borders, a garden pavilion and orangery.
