THE GLASS CHAPEL

THE GLASS CHAPEL
© Pol Tiétard

Arthur Brancart was a master glazier and an ingenious artificer. The Fauquez hamlet owes him its wealth. During the First World War he invented the Marbrite. The 'Verreries de Fauquez' with up to 800 employees sold this opacified glass all over the world.
Arthur Brancart had a large part of the village built, as well as the school, the cinema, the village hall, the shops and last but not least the glass chapel. The interior and the exterior of the chapel were completely covered with opacified glass. Until 1977 it was used for church services and as exhibition space. Today it is used for housing, as performance hall, as memorial place for the industrial patrimony and for a Breton crêperie.
