ARCHAEOLOGY MUSEUM

ARCHAEOLOGY MUSEUM
© Musée d'Archéologie de Tournai / Patrick MAURAGE

The Archaeology Museum principally exhibits objects of prehistoric, Gallo-Roman and Merovingian archaeology.
The quaternary section recounts the different steps of the human evolution. Near the local and outlying industries, you will also find various outstanding foreign pieces: African bifaces, French stone series from the Périgord and Aurignac...
The Gallo-Roman section exhibits excavations from de large necropolis spreading from the Grand-Place to rue Perdue with its centerpiece: a sarcophagus of decorated lead, unique in Belgium.
The Merovingian section unveils the results of the excavations of two cemeteries: one cemetery near the park of the Town Hall and the other one from the St-Brice district).
