The Cathedral of Tournai, with its five bell towers, Romanesque nave, transept and a Gothic-style choir, is a mediaeval architectural gem. Its wide nave consists of four horizontal levels and nine rows where columns are surmounted by differently decorated capitals form a whole of several hundred unique pieces in Belgium. Don't miss the masterpiece: the Renaissance choir screen by Corneille de Vriendt in the middle of the transept. In the southern part of the transept you can see some extraordinary church windows. The middle of the Gothic choir (58 m long - 36 m high) is dominated by the marble altar originating from the St Martin abbey of Tournai.
