The Steam Train Museum in Treignes

The Steam Train Museum in Treignes, which opened in 1994, reveals the history of this traditional mode of transport.

Along four 100m tracks, the museum unveils old steam locomotives, diesel railcars, locomotives from the 50s as well as passenger carriages and servicing equipment.

Most of these engines are part of the collection belonging to the Three Valleys Steam Train Company. There are also various temporary railway-themed exhibitions organised.

A walkway that overhangs the Treignes workshop allows you to observe the work that is in progress.

The Museum organises themed days:

• Days when old locomotives are brought out of retirement,
• Days dedicated to model railways,
• The traditional "Festival de la Vapeur" (Steam Festival) with: steam engines running non-stop from 10am, a dozen or so locomotives currently in service, a miniature train market, diverse activities...
