Country walk/hiking


Walk over the Rur river up to the state forest of Küchelscheid. This forest is caracterized by the old spruces that renew themselves naturally. The past few yours young beeches have been planted at various places. You arrive at the pont of the Bergervenn. Take the dam of the pond to go the Fagne of the Bergerven. Numerous firs have been removed from the peaty zones to restore the typical birch forest. After the Bergervenn you walk alongside a beech grove where you can see numerous small natural beech seedlings. After 1 km, you cross the Schwarzbach and you return in the forest of Küchelscheid. At the edge of the forest you can see the German village of Kalterherberg in the distance.

Access: N68 from Eupen. The N676 in Mont-Rigi, then the N647 in Sourbroudt in direction of Elsenborn. At the roundabout of the "Camp d'Elsenbor", take teh N669 in direction of Küchelscheid. After 5 km, you will find a parking alongside the road at the Thomas bridge.
This walk is also accessible to people with reduced mobility.
