Province : Luxembourg

A pleasant and easy RAVeL route through forest beside the River Lesse, in the heart of the Ardennes.

From the very first turn of our wheels we can hear the murmur of the surging river mixed with birdsong. On the RAVeL, to follow the wild, wandering River Lesse is exhilarating. From its source on the Plateau de Paliseul it crosses no inhabited place: pollution seems a distant problem in this corner of the Ardennes.

Our path along its course is a joy to behold. This former tramway linked Wellin to Graide until 1958. It has now been rehabilitated as a greenway for the pleasure of walkers and cyclists. A little after the road that leads to Daverdisse, we head into the heart of the forest, now following the Almache, a tributary of the Lesse.

It leads us to a wooden bridge. At the edge of the forest, the hamlet of Gembes comes into view, a place of wonderful calm and serenity, which the surrounding forest seems to have protected from the passage of time.

Good to know!

PICVerts is a local network of public routes (greenways, lanes, tracks and paths) reserved for non-motorised users – a perfect complement to the RAVeL system!
