BALADE DES ROCTIERS D'ALLAIN

In the valley of the Escaut you can find a lot of limestone. Allain has well preserved the numerous remains of its exploitations. The walk takes you along to the lime kilns and the stone quarries with exceptional names: "Marousse", "Madelon" and "l'Orient" next to a nature reserve. Along the towpaths you will discover numerous houses in limed rubble stones, that have been beautifully renovated by young entrepreneurs. In the village you will remark many curbs: Allein is called "the small Tournai Provence" because of its streets and alleys with capricious turns.
