Marchienne Castle stands at the junction of the Sambre and the Eau d'Heure rivers. Its buildings, made from stone and painted brick, form an L-shape. Today, it houses the public library. In the early 17th century, the Honoré family built a château on the site of a former seigniorial dwelling. The Briffoz, Crissegnée and de Wal families were to follow.
In 1695 it was bought by Guillaume Bliquin, an ironmaster. He undertook improvements to the property and his coat of arms can still be seen on the entrance porch. His daughter, Marie-Agnès Bliquin, married Jean-Louis Cartier. Thus, in 1726, the seigniory passed to the Cartier family. The château, which burned down in 1932 was bought by the Marchienne-au-Pont Local Authorities in 1938.
